Malabar Spinning and Weaving guild is a family teaching guild formed for the purpose of continuing education in the fiber arts.
The guild meets each Monday, weather and federal holidays permitting, at the farm office at Malabar Farm State Park. The farm office (a white farm house) is located across from the Youth Hostel at the park. A fiber library is available, and there are weaving looms and spinning wheels at the guild, for members wanting to learn these fiber arts. Workshops are held during the year, with members suggesting the fiber art they want to learn.
Members practice and learn to: wash, process, comb and dye a fleece. They learn to spin, weave, knit, crochet, felt, needle felt, hook a rug, quilt, tatting, bobbin lace, needle punch, basket weaving, wool felt applique and other fiber arts.
The guild has a monthly meeting on the first Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. at the park visitors center. A guest speaker or guild member presents a program relating to fiber arts, along with a "show and tell" for members to showcase their fiber art/talent.
